僕の学生達もそうだと思うが、ウィキペディアは本当に便利。もちろん、記事のデータなどは自分でウラを取らなければ、学術論文での引用資料としてはとても使えないのだが、とっかかりとしてはものすごく重宝だ。政治学の概念などになってくると、英語の方に詳細な記事が載っているし、ロシア語、その他の言語でのウィキペディアも参照できる。

だが、ウィキペディアというのは米国のＮＰＯなので、利用者からの寄付がないと干上がる。僕も今日、ウィキペディアの上をクリックし、paypalを通じてクレジット・カードで支払った。
そしたら、次の（自動式）礼状がすぐ送られてきた。気持ちがいいし、ウィキペディアのような活力は政府予算などではなく、利用者の寄付に支えられて初めて可能になる。自分のカネで自分のための便宜を発展させよう。
